On Abortion: A Lincolnian Position - The Atlantic →
Impressive article. Mind-blowing, really. This is how I have viewed several moral issues within the legal constructs of an anything-but-homogenous nation. George McKenna just gained a new fan.

Wovenhand - Blush Music
Blush Music is in no way a departure from their self-titled debut, but, in fact, a re-imagining of it. Ultima Vez sought after Wovenhand to create a soundtrack for one of their productions, Blush, in Europe. Ultima Vez was founded in 1986 as the company and organization of choreographer, director and filmmaker Wim Vandekeybus. Since its foundation, Ultima Vez has...

Wovenhand - Self-Titled
Easily the best album of the year, thus far. Every track is strong and there is not a single weak or dull spot on this album. While there is a definite atmosphere and tone that is carried throughout the ten tracks, none of the songs seem to sound the same. There is enough diversity within the unity of the album to create a cohesive story from beginning to the end. ...

No Sleep Till Wolflin: The Industry Sign-Off Post →
nosleeptillwolflin:
Well, my days in the music industry are coming to an end. It’s been a good run. Admittedly, working on the retail purchasing side, you’re not truly in the bidness as much as it might seem. There are days it feels like you’re shipping canned vegetables, then the next day, you’re meeting rappers….

I’ve been asked to explain myself and why I have an iPhone (which belongs to the family of phones commonly referred to as a “smart phone”). So, for Dawn, for Dale and for anyone who feels that I have traded on my ways, that I have gone off the deep end, that I have sacrificed my own soul, that I…

16 Horsepower - Folklore
If this was your first introduction to 16 Horsepower then you would almost think that there was nothing significantly different about this band from any other folk-oriented band. However, if you had listened to any of their other albums before this one then the rather normal nature of this album would be strange in and of itself. There are only four original 16...

The Prudent Jailor
Always the old nostalgia? Yes. We still remember times before We had learned to wear the prison dress Or steel rings rubbed our ankles sore. Escapists? Yes. Looking at bars And chains, we think of files; and then Of black nights without moon or stars And luck befriending hunted men. Still when we hear the trains at night We envy the free travellers, whirled In how few moments past the sight Of the...

16 Horsepower - Secret South
If you remember my review from last week, I pinpointed two tracks that were the main highlights and the two sides of 16 Horsepower. Secret South is essentially what happens when they decide to explore the sonic rock and atmospherics of “For Heaven’s Sake.” This album is filled with heavy, slowly-building, atmospheric rock songs ala Nick Cave and...
